About Kariya_City
Kariya City, located in Aichi Prefecture, is located almost in the center of the prefecture. It has a long history, beginning with the construction of Kariya Castle in 1533 by Mizuno Tadamasa, father of Odai no Kata, the mother of Tokugawa Ieyasu. Since the Meiji era, the city has developed as a key transportation hub. Today, the city center is lined with automobile-related factories utilizing cutting-edge technology, making it a vibrant and lively town. Kariya is home to many traditional events, including the Kariya Manto Festival, a unique festival that has been designated an intangible folk cultural property of Aichi Prefecture, and the Daimyo Procession, or "Yakkunoneri," in which a procession featuring Odai no Kata and the fictional lord Akita Dekimori parades through the city. These events attract not only local residents but also many spectators from both within and outside the prefecture.
