About Iwakura City
Located almost in the center of the Owari Plain, Iwakura City has good access to Nagoya City and has developed in recent years as a commuter town for the city. Nagoya Cochin chicken is a local specialty. The city's local dish, "Hikizuri," is a sukiyaki dish made with Nagoya Cochin chicken and continues to be loved by locals today. Another local specialty is "Chicchaina," a mini Chinese cabbage that goes well with any dish. Iwakura City is also famous as a cherry blossom viewing spot, and both banks of the Gojo River have been selected as one of Japan's 100 best cherry blossom viewing spots. The Gojo River is also where carp streamers are laundered, a tradition that takes place in early spring.
