About Handa City
Handa City is located south of Nagoya City and east of Chubu Centrair International Airport, on the eastern side of the central part of the Chita Peninsula. The city's symbols include the floats, storehouses, Nankichi, and red bricks. Floats are a traditional culture with a 300-year history that is still carefully passed down today. The spectacular sight of the floats being pulled around in the spring is a source of pride for the city's residents. In particular, the float event at the Kamezaki Shiohi Festival has been designated an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan. A former brewery warehouse with a chalkboard enclosure remains along the Handa Canal, preserving traces of its former appearance. The red brick building was originally built as a beer factory and is one of the largest brick buildings still standing.
