Chita City is located in the northwestern part of the Chita Peninsula in Aichi Prefecture, and most of the city is hilly. Long-established settlements and urban areas have formed in the valleys of the hills and along the coast. The city's industries are manufacturing and agriculture, with industrial zones along the coast where power plants and refineries are in operation. The inland agricultural area, which developed with the opening of the Aichi Irrigation Canal, cultivates local specialties such as butterbur and small bulb onions called "pekoros." The city also boasts the traditional performing art of Owari Manzai, a nationally designated Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property. Other popular tourist spots include Shinmaiko Marine Park, Safuri Green and Flower Park, and Daichiin Temple.
