About Oji Town
Oji Town in Kaifu County is blessed with a rich natural environment, with the Shonai River, Shinkawa River, and Fukuda River flowing through it. Agriculture has been thriving here since ancient times. Located about 5 kilometers from Nagoya Station, it is currently thriving as a commuter town for Nagoya City. While high-rise apartments and residential areas are being developed, red shiso (perilla) is cultivated thrivingly along the Shonai River riverbed. The shiso from this region is known nationwide as "Oji's perilla," and perilla juice is a local specialty. One tourist attraction is Meigen-in Temple, known as Japan's first ophthalmology facility. The Nio statues at Meigen-in Temple are designated as a town cultural property. Although the town is small in area, it is known as the third most densely populated area in the prefecture.
